Women’s Futsal World Cup: Atlas Lionesses Defy Expectations and Secure a Spot in the Quarterfinals

The Atlas Lionesses have done it again. This Thursday, November 27, at the Women’s Futsal World Cup held in the Philippines, the Moroccan national team achieved a remarkable feat by booking their place in the quarterfinals thanks to a decisive 1-0 win over Poland.

After a difficult opening match against Argentina (6-0), followed by a superb reaction against the host nation (3-2), Adil Sayeh’s squad had no room for error. They needed to defeat Poland to stay alive in the competition. They did it with composure and determination, against a team ranked 15th in the world while Morocco currently sits at 31.

From the start, the Moroccan players made it clear they were not there to suffer. Jasmine Demraoui even believed she had opened the scoring before VAR ruled out the goal for an accidental handball. It was an early warning that set the tone for a tense and hard-fought match.

Solid, focused and impeccable in the duels, the Moroccan team built their success on an ironclad defense. Meryem Harji was dominant at the back, while Kawtar Bentaleb delivered multiple decisive saves to keep the team in the game.

It was finally the inevitable Jasmine Demraoui who freed Morocco in the second half (29’), converting Moroccan dominance in the decisive moments.

The final minutes were a masterclass in control: compact defensive structure, total teamwork and unwavering determination until the final whistle.

Thanks to this outstanding victory, the African champions march into the quarterfinals and add another chapter to their remarkable campaign. The Atlas Lionesses continue pushing forward, firmly and confidently, toward history.
