AFCON 2025: FRMF lodges protest with CAF over delay in appointing referees for Morocco vs Cameroon quarterfinal

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has submitted a formal complaint to CAF over what it considers an abnormal delay in announcing the refereeing team appointed for the highly anticipated quarterfinal between Morocco and Cameroon. As this decisive match approaches, the FRMF believes that this situation goes against the practices and transparency standards usually observed in major continental competitions.

According to sources close to the matter, this step aims to guarantee sporting fairness and preserve a calm atmosphere around a high stakes match closely followed by African football supporters and observers. The Moroccan federation recalls that the early designation of referees is a key element in ensuring proper team preparation and in avoiding any unnecessary controversy.

CAF has, for the time being, not yet reacted officially to this protest, but the FRMF hopes for a swift response so that this quarterfinal can be played under conditions that respect the principles of fair play and good governance in African football.
