Dakar highlights fraternity between Senegal and Morocco ahead of the CAN final
On the occasion of the Africa Cup of Nations final set to pit the national teams of the Republic of Senegal and the Kingdom of Morocco against each other on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad stressed that this sporting encounter will above all be a celebration of fraternity between two peoples united by deep historical, economic, human and spiritual ties.

In a statement, the Ministry recalled the excellence of the longstanding relations of friendship and solidarity between Senegal and Morocco. These ties, founded on mutual respect and a shared vision of African and international challenges, have steadily strengthened over the decades.
In this spirit of trust and partnership, the Ministry underlined that, true to this age-old friendship, the Kingdom of Morocco has, since the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, demonstrated exemplary cooperation. The Senegalese authorities expressed their satisfaction with the consistency of this fraternal attitude and conveyed their thanks to the Moroccan government.
“The Senegal considers sport, and football in particular, as a powerful vehicle for bringing peoples closer together and strengthening cohesion. This final should therefore be experienced as a celebration of African talent, continental unity and the strong fraternity between the Senegalese and Moroccan peoples, beyond any circumstantial consideration,” the statement said.
The Ministry also called on all stakeholders, supporters and public opinion to uphold a spirit of responsibility, respect and fair play, in keeping with the solidity of Senegalese-Moroccan relations and in order to preserve the image of African football on the international stage.
