UN Tourism: Morocco strengthens its position as Africa’s leading tourist destination
Morocco consolidated its position in 2025 as Africa’s leading tourist destination, welcoming nearly 20 million international tourists, representing an increase of 14 percent compared to 2024, according to a report published on Tuesday by UN Tourism.

This performance comes despite a global context marked by “high inflation in tourism services and uncertainties linked to geopolitical tensions,” UN Tourism Secretary-General Cheikha Al Nowais said in a statement.
At the regional level, Africa recorded an 8 percent increase in the number of international travelers, driven in particular by the momentum observed in Morocco. The Asia-Pacific region, for its part, posted growth of 6 percent, according to the report by the UN body.
Europe, the world’s leading tourism region, with France and Spain at the forefront, totaled 793 million international arrivals in 2025, up 4 percent compared to 2024 and 6 percent compared to 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the Americas, Brazil recorded strong year-on-year growth of 37 percent, according to the UN Tourism report.
According to the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, the performance of Morocco’s tourism sector is the result of the implementation of the Tourism Roadmap 2023–2026, which focuses in particular on strengthening air connectivity, structuring accommodation capacity, diversifying the offer, improving service quality and stimulating territorial investment.
This momentum was accompanied by record tourism revenues, which reached 124 billion dirhams by the end of November 2025, an increase of 19 percent compared to the previous year, confirming tourism’s role as a driver of economic growth at the territorial level.
The Ministry recalls that the Kingdom aims to welcome 26 million tourists and position itself as a benchmark destination by 2030.
