Rachid Talbi El Alami holds talks with the President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, held talks with the President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, Walter Rosenkranz, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom.

The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight the historic relations between Morocco and Austria, as well as the major development projects underway in the Kingdom under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It also shed light on the international and continental initiatives launched by the Sovereign to strengthen global solidarity and promote sustainable development, according to a statement from the House of Representatives.

The discussions also focused on Morocco’s role in resolving conflicts through peaceful means, in promoting international peace and security, and in upholding the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.

Both parties welcomed the strong bilateral relations between their respective legislative institutions and agreed to further strengthen them under the Memorandum of Understanding signed on March 20, 2023, between the Moroccan House of Representatives and the Austrian National Council. The agreement aims to enhance parliamentary and administrative cooperation, as well as dialogue, consultation, and coordination on issues of mutual interest.

In a statement to the press, the President of the Austrian National Council praised the historic cooperation between Austria and Morocco at various governmental and parliamentary levels, emphasizing that both countries should capitalize on all available opportunities to strengthen their economic ties.

He further stated that Austria is keen to deepen cooperation with Morocco in the fields of renewable and clean energy and the green economy, noting that Morocco stands as a model of security and stability, a gateway to the African continent, and a reliable partner for Austria and Europe.

Regarding the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity, Mr. Rosenkranz described the recent UN Security Council resolution as “important and fair,” stressing that the Autonomy Initiative proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco in 2007 constitutes a “serious and credible contribution” and a sound basis for resolving the Sahara issue.

The meeting was attended by Abdellah Ghazi, President of the Morocco-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group, Anna Jankovic, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Morocco, as well as several officials and administrative representatives from both sides.
