UN–Sahara: Equatorial Guinea Hails Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as a “Serious and Credible” Initiative
Equatorial Guinea praised on Tuesday in New York Morocco’s Autonomy Plan for the Sahara, describing it as a “serious and credible” initiative to resolve the regional dispute.

Speaking before the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, the representative of Equatorial Guinea emphasized that this initiative, recognized by the Security Council, enables the empowerment of local populations, guarantees their rights, and promotes their active participation in managing their own affairs, while contributing to regional stability.
He also highlighted the substantial investments made by the Kingdom in its southern provinces, particularly in infrastructure, education, health, and economic development, noting that this dynamic reflects a concrete commitment to improving the well-being of local populations.
The diplomat further commended Morocco’s commitment to maintaining the ceasefire and its full cooperation with MINURSO.
He also reiterated the call for the resumption of the roundtable process in the same format and with the same participants, adding that his country “appreciates” the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara to revive the political process under the Secretary-General’s exclusive auspices.
