Marrakech: ONEE and Med-TSO Bring Together Regional Stakeholders Around the Integration of Mediterranean Power Grids
The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) hosted, on Thursday in Marrakech, a regional roadshow organised by Med-TSO, dedicated to the integration of electrical power systems in the Mediterranean.

Held under the theme “Connecting Grids, Securing the Future: The TEASIMED 2 project effort for an Integrated Mediterranean Power System”, the meeting brought together institutional representatives, electricity transmission system operators, financial partners, as well as energy sector experts from the Euro-Mediterranean region, ONEE said in a statement.
This event forms part of the joint efforts undertaken by ONEE and Med-TSO to strengthen regional cooperation and support the gradual integration of power grids, in a context marked by challenges related to security of supply, energy transition and the increased integration of renewable energies.
Discussions mainly focused on the strategic, technical, regulatory and financial issues linked to strengthening the integration of electrical systems in the Mediterranean, with an emphasis on Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, the development of regional interconnections, long-term network planning, as well as the levers required to build a more efficient, sustainable, flexible and resilient power system by 2040.
The statement also underlined that ONEE is a member of Med-TSO and, in this capacity, contributes to the association’s work aimed at strengthening the integration of power grids at the Mediterranean level.
Hosting this roadshow in Marrakech, the statement continues, reflects ONEE’s commitment to the development of electrical interconnections, the strengthening of power grid resilience, and the promotion of regional cooperation among Mediterranean countries.
Med-TSO (Mediterranean Transmission System Operators) is the association of electricity transmission system operators in the Mediterranean region. It brings together high-voltage and extra-high-voltage grid operators from 20 Mediterranean countries, working collectively on the operation and development of electricity transmission infrastructures.
The mission of Med-TSO is to promote the establishment of an integrated, secure and sustainable regional electricity transmission network, while supporting institutional initiatives aimed at fostering the creation of a Mediterranean energy market.
Med-TSO is chaired by Sabah Mashaly, Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC). The General Secretariat, headed by Angelo Ferrante, is based in Rome.
The association includes 20 transmission system operators among its members, the statement concludes.
