Morocco–Portugal: Memorandum of Understanding signed in Lisbon on personal data protection

The National Commission for the Control of the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP) signed, on Wednesday in Lisbon, a memorandum of understanding with the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two institutions in areas of common interest.

The agreement was signed by Paula Meira Lourenço, President of the CNPD, and Omar Seghrouchni, President of the CNDP.

According to a CNDP statement, the agreement seeks to consolidate cooperation between the two authorities, notably through the exchange of information and expertise, particularly in areas raising new challenges in the protection of personal data such as artificial intelligence, image processing and digital violence.

The cooperation also covers educational projects and training programs, as well as the sharing of best practices in monitoring and implementing the legal framework.

This strategic partnership also provides for the organization of annual bilateral meetings in order to strengthen exchanges, share experiences and deepen reflection on personal data protection.

It also aims to leverage the privileged relations maintained by the two institutions with specialized international networks, notably the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD) and the Lusophone Data Protection Network (RLPD) for the Portuguese side, as well as the Francophone Association of Personal Data Protection Authorities (AFAPDP) and the African Network of Personal Data Protection Authorities (RAPDP) for the Moroccan side.
