On the occasion of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025: a fusion of art and sport in the “Mawj” performance at Rabat-Agdal station

The forecourt of Rabat-Agdal railway station hosted, on Friday, an artistic performance entitled “Mawj” (Wave), presented by third-year students of the dramatic arts program at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and Cultural Animation, on the occasion of Morocco’s hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.

This performance, part of a training workshop organized by the Institute entitled “Blurred Boundaries… a new experience in performance art,” combines contemporary dance, football and personal research. It offers an original artistic experience highlighting the interaction between live performance arts and the festive atmosphere experienced by the Kingdom as it prepares to host this continental sporting event.

In a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP), the Director of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and Cultural Animation, Latifa Ahrar, stressed that this performance is part of an approach aimed at opening the Institute’s students to different fields, including sport. She explained that the objective is to encourage students to explore new forms of expression outside the traditional theatrical space.

Ms. Ahrar added that the organization of this performance falls within the framework of celebrations and cultural activities accompanying the hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations, noting that presenting artistic works in public spaces helps expand the audience and strengthen interaction between citizens and live arts.

For her part, the supervisor of the performance, Paulina Almeida, explained that this artistic creation was developed through the formulation of personal messages expressing the feelings of the participating students, which were then transformed into artistic exercises that gradually evolved into individual performances based on movement and bodily expression.

Ms. Almeida added that the choice of football was not accidental, as it represents a unifying platform for multiple cultures and a shared space allowing students to combine art with the spirit of the game.

The performance generated strong interaction from travelers and visitors at the station, who stopped to follow its various sequences, at a moment where the sporting atmosphere linked to the Africa Cup of Nations blended with the creative momentum characteristic of youth artistic expression.
