Mehdi Bensaïd Inaugurates the Berkane House of Culture

Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, inaugurated on Friday in Berkane the new House of Culture, a major addition to the city’s cultural infrastructure.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the Governor of Berkane Province, Hamid Chnouri, the Director General of the Oriental Development Agency, Mohamed Mbarki, as well as several elected officials and other distinguished figures. Fully rehabilitated and upgraded, the Berkane House of Culture is considered a model cultural facility at the national level.

Designed as an open and inclusive space, it aims to encourage residents and young people to create, innovate, learn, and develop their skills. The center features a modern performance hall with 474 seats, a children’s area introducing the arts at an early age, and a reading space for adults to promote reading and research.

It also includes a multimedia area to support digital transformation, an art gallery showcasing works by local and national artists, and a music institute where young people can learn the basics of instrumental practice and cultivate their passion for music.

Bensaïd noted that this important cultural complex, whose opening coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Green March, represents a major asset for the city of Berkane, offering a comprehensive public cultural space for youth, children, and all segments of society.

He emphasized that the facility serves as a vital platform for young people interested in the cultural economy and creative industries, providing them with opportunities to express their talents, enhance their creativity, and explore integration into the national and international markets.

The Minister also highlighted that culture, beyond its public service dimension, is a promising economic and industrial sector capable of addressing key challenges related to employment and youth skill development, serving as both a driver of growth and an opportunity for transformation.

This project reflects the Ministry’s broader vision to make culture accessible to all and to strengthen its role in promoting openness, creativity, and active citizenship.
