Tangier: Hundreds of people affected by the Ksar El Kébir floods sheltered
As part of the operation to shelter people affected by the floods that hit the city of Ksar El Kébir, the National Summer Camp Center at the Diplomatic Forest in Tangier has been hosting hundreds of victims since Tuesday.

The center, which has a hosting capacity of 600 people and is located near the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, has received around 400 people from Ksar El Kébir who were evacuated from neighborhoods and areas threatened by the rising waters of the Loukkos River.
MAP observed the scale of the efforts deployed by local authorities, security forces, the Moroccan Red Crescent and all stakeholders to organize the sheltering operation under proper conditions and provide the necessary and urgent assistance.
Equipped with adequate, high-level infrastructure, the center has been arranged into two pavilions, one reserved for women and children and the other for men, both fitted with all the necessary means to ensure comfort and dignified accommodation for those affected.
Since their arrival yesterday, and despite the heavy rainfall also recorded in Tangier, the hosted individuals have been receiving all necessary services, including food, clothing, blankets, medication and first aid when needed.
The center also includes other spaces, notably a storage area where items such as blankets, clothing and all equipment required by the families on site are prepared and distributed according to needs.
A health center and a pharmacy have also been made available to those affected, both equipped with the required medical equipment and various types of medication, with particular monitoring of illness cases, especially among people suffering from chronic conditions.
In this regard, the regional coordinator of rescue and emergency services of the Moroccan Red Crescent in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, Mohamed Ajbari, stated that the presence of the Red Crescent within the center falls within its core missions of supporting public, health and military authorities in emergency situations.
He also highlighted, in a statement to MAP, the considerable efforts made by the teams to ease the psychological burden on those affected, adding that the reception center includes an advanced medical unit dedicated to medical interventions and first aid.
Simple interventions are carried out within the center itself, while more complex cases are transferred to hospitals in close coordination with health authorities, he explained, noting that the Moroccan Red Crescent has highly qualified first responders specialized in disaster and risk management in general.
He also praised the sustained efforts of public authorities to bring together all appropriate conditions for receiving those affected and to mobilize all the logistical and human resources necessary to preserve the dignity of the people concerned.
For their part, several affected individuals from different age groups expressed, in statements collected by MAP, their satisfaction with the good conditions provided at the center, praising the efforts of local authorities and all stakeholders to ensure dignified living conditions while awaiting the stabilization of weather conditions and a return to normalcy in Ksar El Kébir.
This operation is part of the solidarity-based approach adopted by authorities to address the repercussions of this exceptional climatic situation and alleviate the suffering of populations affected in Ksar El Kébir.
It is worth noting that the evacuation operation of residents of the city of Ksar El Kébir is continuing steadily toward cities and safe areas located outside the Loukkos basin, notably Fnideq, Larache and Tangier.
