Human Rights Council: Morocco Announces Two International Events to Strengthen Multilateral Action on Human Rights
Geneva – The Interministerial Delegate for Human Rights, Mohamed El Habib Belkouch, announced on Wednesday in Geneva that the Kingdom of Morocco will soon organize two international events aimed at strengthening multilateral cooperation and consolidating consensus around fundamental human rights standards.

Speaking on behalf of the Kingdom during the plenary session of the high-level segment of the 61st session of the Human Rights Council, Belkouch stated that the first initiative will take the form of “a specialized reflection retreat, scheduled before the summer, dedicated to examining ways to reform the Universal Periodic Review mechanism, as it approaches its fifth cycle.”
He added that Morocco will also organize a thematic event dedicated to the prevention of torture, aimed at encouraging the exchange of best practices among national prevention mechanisms, independent institutions and international partners.
Belkouch emphasized that these two initiatives are part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to contribute to building consensus around the fundamental standards of the mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.
The official recalled that Morocco continues to pursue structural reforms aimed at strengthening equality and protecting fundamental rights and freedoms, in accordance with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
He also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to multilateralism and to strengthening the international human rights system.
In this context, Belkouch expressed Morocco’s full support for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, particularly the High Commissioner’s personal engagement on several priority issues, including the prevention of violations, capacity building and the promotion of human rights-based approaches in public policies.
