Morocco’s Choice to Host GITEX Africa Furthers Efforts to Make Kingdom a Regional Digital Hub – Minister

Rabat – Morocco’s choice to host GITEX Africa is the fruit of ongoing work to make the Kingdom a regional digital hub, under the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni said on Friday in Rabat.
Speaking at a press conference to present GITEX Africa, scheduled on April 14-16 in Marrakech, Seghrouchni stressed that the 2025 edition of this major event, an annual showcase of Africa’s digital and technological talents and potential, aims to strengthen the Continent’s position as a major player on the global technology scene, with a particular focus on digital infrastructure, advances in artificial intelligence and the latest technological innovations.
The Minister noted that one of the main new features of this year’s GITEX Africa is the “Africa Future Connectivity” Summit, a platform bringing together major players in the telecoms, cloud computing and data center sectors.
This summit, she continued, will be an opportunity to discuss the impact of broadband, 5G deployment and cloud technologies, in addition to strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors to structure Africa’s digital future.
Seghrouchni also highlighted another major new feature of this edition, namely the launch of the “Diaspora Studio”, a space dedicated to networking African talent on a global scale, in particular to promote investment and conclude cross-border partnerships.
According to the Minister, the best reflection of GITEX Africa trade show’s success is the remarkable change in numbers between the first and third editions, as, this year, the number of participating companies and startups should exceed 1,400, compared with over 400 at the 1st edition.
The number of visitors, recorded at over 32,000 at the 1st edition, should reach over 45,000 participants in 2025, from over 130 countries around the world, she said, adding that the event is expected to welcome over 650 government institutions, over 350 investors and over 660 speakers.
In addition, the 3rd edition of Gitex Africa Maroc will highlight high-impact technology sectors such as EdTech, AgriTech, HealthTech and SportsTech, through the organization of sector panels and the signing of strategic partnerships favoring Africa’s integration into the global digital economy, Seghrouchni detailed.
“Persuaded of the importance of supporting Moroccan startups and strengthening their presence at international events in order to promote their influence on a continental and global scale, the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform has launched the second edition of the ‘Morocco 200’ initiative”, she said, adding that, “as part of this initiative, 200 Moroccan startups will receive support covering 90% of the cost of their participation in the GITEX trade show, after being selected according to well-defined criteria”.
For her part, Trixie LohMirmand, CEO of Gitex organiser KAOUN International, praised the significant momentum of the Moroccan technology ecosystem, highlighting in particular the 300 local startups taking part in this year’s event.
She further pointed out that over 40% of the companies present at the event offer AI-related solutions, illustrating Africa’s transition to a new technological decade, before adding that this momentum places Morocco at the heart of a global agenda, where artificial intelligence is becoming a lever of sovereignty and competitiveness for states, cities and continents.
LohMirmand stressed the importance of international openness and technological benchmarking. With over 350 investors in attendance, with a quarter discovering Morocco for the first time, GITEX Africa is becoming a key platform for networking and growth.
KAOUN International CEO also highlighted the need for Moroccan startups to master adaptability, resource management and exporting, believing that GITEX Africa is now a strategic catalyst for making Morocco a continental gateway to the AI economy.
