Marrakech: ONMT activates a new air travel driver with the inauguration of easyJet’s base

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) inaugurated on Wednesday at Marrakech Menara Airport the new easyJet base, further strengthening its tourism development strategy.

As the airline’s first base in Africa, the new hub was inaugurated in the presence of ONMT Director General Achraf Fayda and easyJet Chief Executive Officer Kenton Jarvis. According to an ONMT statement, the base represents a major operational driver for the continued growth of Morocco as a destination.

With three aircraft stationed in Marrakech, the base will make it possible to offer up to four million seats in its first year, significantly boosting air capacity to the Kingdom while supporting growth from Morocco’s main source markets.

The launch of the new base will allow easyJet to substantially expand its services to Morocco, with six new routes increasing the airline’s total network to 58 connections linking the Kingdom with its main tourism markets.

Starting in winter 2026, three new routes will connect Prague, Newcastle and Zurich to Marrakech. In spring 2026, three additional links will be introduced between Nantes and Essaouira, Bordeaux and Agadir, and Birmingham and Agadir.

At the same time, several existing routes from Marrakech, particularly to Lille, Strasbourg and Hamburg, will now operate year-round, providing stronger and more stable connectivity.

With these developments, easyJet now serves five Moroccan airports: Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira and Tangier. This confirms its position as the leading carrier to Morocco from the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and the third-largest airline operating in the Kingdom.

At the regional level, the impact is immediate, ONMT noted, stressing that the opening of the base will create around 100 direct jobs as well as numerous indirect opportunities, while energizing the wider local tourism ecosystem.

The new step is part of the strategic partnership signed in autumn 2025 between ONMT and easyJet, built around a shared objective of sustainably strengthening Morocco’s connectivity, diversifying markets and supporting balanced tourism growth.

The partnership also includes the expansion of easyJet holidays, with more than 70 properties now offered in Marrakech.

Present in Morocco since 2006, easyJet has transported nearly 20 million passengers to the Kingdom and currently serves five major airports: Marrakech, Agadir, Rabat, Essaouira and Tangier, actively contributing to regional promotion and the diversification of Morocco’s tourism offering.

By increasing capacity, stabilizing routes and opening new markets, ONMT is helping create the conditions for more controlled and structured growth in support of long-term tourism performance, the statement concluded.
