Aziz Akhannouch: Teachers’ Dignity at the Heart of Education Reform
Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch has affirmed that enhancing the status of teachers is a fundamental pillar of Morocco’s education system reform. According to him, placing teachers at the center of the transformation of the school system is a deliberate political choice, aimed at ensuring both professional stability and recognition for those working in education.

Speaking at the opening of the second edition of the National Teachers’ Forum, held under the theme “The Teacher at the Heart of Educational Transformation,” the head of government stressed that this slogan reflects a strategic direction intended to restore the full value of the teaching profession within society.
He recalled that since taking office, the government has made education reform a top priority, in line with the High Royal Guidelines. The objective, he explained, is to create an environment where teachers feel heard and supported, with their dignity considered a non-negotiable principle.
In this context, Aziz Akhannouch highlighted the central role of teachers as key actors in shaping future generations and strengthening trust within society, beyond their administrative function.
The head of government also pointed to concrete measures undertaken to revive the sector, notably the adoption of a new status for national education employees, covering nearly 336,000 staff members. This is complemented by salary increases of at least 1,500 dirhams per month, alongside a reform of the allowances system and the introduction of new professional benefits.
He specified that the annual cost of commitments resulting from social dialogue in the sector amounts to nearly 17 billion dirhams, illustrating the scale of the financial effort made by the state.
Moreover, the “Schools of Success” program was presented as a strategic lever to reduce inequalities and restore confidence in public education. In the same vein, initiatives aimed at combating school dropout have been strengthened, with a significant increase in the number of “second chance” centers, rising from 123 in 2021 to 222 in 2025, now covering all regions of the Kingdom.
From a budgetary perspective, Aziz Akhannouch emphasized that resources allocated to education have seen a notable increase, rising from around 59 billion dirhams in 2021 to nearly 99 billion in 2026, making it one of the largest areas of public expenditure.
In conclusion, the head of government stressed that the success of this reform depends on sustained collective commitment, with the ambition of building an inclusive, equitable, and quality-oriented school system that serves all students, both in urban and rural areas.
