Mohamed Chaouki, Sole Candidate to Succeed Aziz Akhannouch at the Helm of the RNI
The National Rally of Independents (RNI) is preparing to turn a significant page in its history. At the close of the official candidacy submission period, Mohamed Chaouki has emerged as the sole contender for the party’s presidency, paving the way for his designation at the extraordinary national congress scheduled for February 7, 2026, in El Jadida, succeeding Aziz Akhannouch.

This development was formalized following the meeting of the RNI’s Political Bureau, held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the party’s central headquarters in Rabat, under the chairmanship of Aziz Akhannouch. The meeting provided an opportunity for party leaders to review the country’s political, economic and social situation, while advancing organizational preparations for the upcoming extraordinary congress.
At the opening of the session, the Political Bureau commended what it described as the remarkable success of Morocco’s organization of the 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. RNI officials highlighted the quality of the infrastructure, the effectiveness of security measures, logistical efficiency and strong public mobilization, considering that the event helped strengthen the Kingdom’s image and influence at the continental level.
In the same vein, the Political Bureau expressed its appreciation for the latest statement issued by the Royal Cabinet, praising the wisdom and clarity it demonstrated in the face of attempts to undermine Morocco’s credibility. Members also recalled His Majesty the King’s unwavering commitment to African solidarity and to building a united, cohesive and prosperous Africa.
Regarding government action, party leaders voiced their satisfaction with the implementation of the 2025 Finance Law, which they view as an illustration of the relevance of the economic and budgetary orientations adopted by the Executive. They pointed in particular to improved growth indicators, stronger foreign exchange reserves and increased tax revenues, despite an international environment marked by uncertainty.
The Political Bureau also highlighted efforts made in the management of public finances, the control of the budget deficit and the reduction of debt, considering that these advances reinforce confidence in the national economy and support citizens’ purchasing power.
In addition, a detailed report on the state of preparations for the extraordinary congress was presented by Rachid Talbi Alami, president of the preparatory commission. He described a process marked by strong mobilization and rigorous organization, aimed at ensuring the smooth running of this key party event.
Finally, in accordance with the party’s statutes and internal regulations, the Political Bureau confirmed receipt of Mohamed Chaouki’s candidacy for the party presidency. After review, the application was officially forwarded to the extraordinary national congress, which will be called upon to endorse this choice on February 7, 2026, in El Jadida.
