Morocco, EU Discuss ‘Confidently’ Envision Future Partnership – Ambassador
Brussels - Morocco and the European Union (EU) envision the future of their bilateral relations with confidence and a sincere and strong willingness to build an outstanding partnership, stated Ahmed Réda Chami, Morocco's ambassador to the EU, on Friday in Brussels.

In a statement to MAP following the signing by Morocco and the EU of the exchange of letters amending the agricultural agreement binding the two parties, Chami welcomed this agreement, which enshrines the maintenance of tariff preferences in favor of products from the Southern Provinces of the Kingdom.
“The negotiations that led to this result were conducted in a spirit of responsibility and respect for the essential interests of our country, while favoring a constructive and forward-looking approach with our European neighbors,” he said.
Chami emphasized that this “step strengthens our confidence in Morocco’s ability to build, with its European partners, a partnership of excellence that fosters stability and shared prosperity.”
For his part, Matthias Petschke, Director of Customs at the European Commission, welcomed the signing of this agreement at Berlaimont (the headquarters of the European Commission), calling it important for further strengthening the relationship between the EU and Morocco.
After praising the “strong and excellent” partnership between Rabat and Brussels, Petschke noted that Morocco and the EU share strong historical, cultural, and economic ties, and are driven by a common desire to continue working to further strengthen them across various sectors.
The agreement signed this Friday is the result of hard work and close cooperation between the EU and Morocco — not only on technical and political aspects but also legal ones, he added, expressing the EU’s ambition to build a lasting relationship with Morocco by deepening dialogue in order to elevate the partnership to a higher level.
