Moroccan Football: FIFA hails an excellent 2025 vintage
Moroccan football delivered in 2025 one of the finest chapters in its history, marked by international titles, benchmark campaigns and a strong presence on all stages, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) underlined on Wednesday, referring to a “particularly successful vintage”.

In an article published on its official website, FIFA writes that “with the senior team, the U-20s, in the Arab Cup, in junior competitions or in women’s club football, Morocco stood out in 2025”, thanks to “the work undertaken by the Kingdom’s institutions and which was translated onto the pitch”.
For FIFA, the major achievement of the year remains the historic victory of the national U-20 team, world champion in Chile, a first for Morocco in all categories combined. “This title rewards this generation, but also the entire system put in place at the federal level”, FIFA writes.
“It is the culmination of several years of hard work and dedication. Our King, His Majesty Mohammed VI, has invested massively in football in order to modernize infrastructure across the entire country. It means a lot to us, because it is a long-term project that began several years ago”, said national coach Mohamed Ouahbi, quoted by FIFA.
The Kingdom also stood out as host of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, organized in Rabat and Salé. Morocco’s participation was considered formative by FIFA, which recalls that it was only the second World Cup in this category for the Atlas Lionesses.
Among the boys, the U-17 national team confirmed its continental status by reaching the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, FIFA recalls.
The year 2025 was also marked by the performances of the women’s futsal teams. After their continental title, FIFA writes, noting that the Moroccan players were “brilliant” in their run to the quarter-finals of the first Women’s Futsal World Cup.
For FIFA, at the regional level, the Atlas Lions “sparkled in the FIFA Arab Cup 2025”, which they won after a solid campaign and a spectacular final victory over Jordan, thanks to “an almost unshakeable defensive base”.
At club level, ASFAR Women carried the Kingdom’s colors high by qualifying for the final phase of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, where the African champions will face Arsenal in the semi-finals on 28 January in London, the Federation recalls.
FIFA also hails Achraf Hakimi, whom it describes as a symbol of this success. “Proudly wearing the captain’s armband with the national team, Achraf Hakimi is increasingly establishing himself as the shining face of Moroccan football”, the Federation writes.
According to FIFA, the senior national team secured its qualification for the 2026 World Cup with authority, delivering a perfect campaign in the African qualifiers.
“The Kingdom’s senior team indeed completed a flawless run in the African qualifiers to secure a third consecutive participation in the FIFA World Cup”, the Federation writes.
