National Association of Media and Publishers calls for publication of the list of beneficiaries of public support

The executive bureau of the National Association of Media and Publishers held an expanded meeting in Casablanca devoted to examining several issues related to the current situation of the media sector and the organisational and institutional challenges it faces.

At the end of the meeting, the president of the association called on the Court of Auditors to make public the complete list of press companies that benefited from public support between 2005 and 2025. This initiative aims to enable an assessment of the real impact of these public funds and to strengthen the principles of transparency, as well as the link between responsibility and accountability within the sector.

The association also expressed its strong indignation over statements described as “shocking and inappropriate”, attributed to the leader of a political party during a parliamentary intervention, in which remarks deemed offensive were allegedly made against its members.

In its statement, the ANME said it refuses to engage in what it described as “buzz-driven logic” or controversies serving narrow electoral objectives. It reaffirmed its commitment to neutrality and to an equidistant position from all political actors, recalling that the press constitutes an independent power.

At the institutional level, members of the executive bureau also examined the situation of the National Press Council in light of the recent decision of the Constitutional Court. While welcoming the significance of this decision, the association warned of the risk of an institutional deadlock that could extend until the April 2026 parliamentary session. Such a situation could disrupt several essential services for the profession, notably the renewal of press cards and the functioning of the ethics and arbitration committees.

In conclusion of the meeting, the National Association of Media and Publishers reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a solid and sustainable press business model, relying more heavily on its own resources. It notably called for reform of the advertising system and for better regulation of relations with major global digital platforms. Members of the executive bureau also unanimously welcomed the momentum driven by the association’s leadership since its creation, particularly in overcoming the profound consequences of the Covid-19 health crisis on the media sector.
