The Algerian Regime requires Visas for Moroccans: A measure as ridiculous and useless as it is pathetic

The Algerian military junta never ceases to amaze us… and to make us laugh at the same time. In a decision as absurd as it is laughable, the leaders in Algiers have introduced a mandatory visa for Moroccan citizens wishing to travel to Algeria – as if anyone truly dreamt of going there!
This announcement has, unsurprisingly, sparked the ire – and especially the sarcasm – of Moroccans, who haven’t hesitated to express their disdain and mockery on social media. One can only wonder, who in their right mind would want to visit a country drowning in shortages, lacking any notable heritage, and without decent infrastructure, where endless queues for everything and nothing are part of daily life.
The Algerian authorities seem to forget that their country, far from being a dream destination, has little to offer to those who might consider venturing there. No world-renowned tourist sites, no trace of cultural or historical heritage worth promoting, and a sense of hospitality that, let’s be frank, leaves much to be desired.
Add to this the deplorable infrastructure and a disastrous economic situation, with a currency – the dinar – that is worth almost nothing. Under these conditions, it’s hard to grasp the point of this visa. It’s like installing security gates in front of an abandoned house: useless, but maybe it reassures the occupants…
Food shortages in Algeria have become legendary, to the point where it could almost be considered a national sport. Between flour, oil, and sometimes even water, everything is in short supply in this country – except, of course, the ever-growing queues.
It seems the Algerian government is more effective at multiplying shortages than at governing its own territory. So honestly, who would want to endure this daily chaos when one could stroll through a resplendent Morocco, rich in culture and gastronomy, with modern infrastructure and millennia-old heritage to explore?
The contrast is all the more striking as, in our beautiful Kingdom, not only would it never occur to us to impose a visa on Algerians, but also, we have nothing to prove.
Morocco, with its dynamic economy, tourism, and culture, shines on the international stage. Rabat, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier are jewels that the whole world dreams of visiting. Meanwhile, across the border, it’s nothing but gloom and backwardness, under the complacent eye of a military junta out of touch with reality.
In the end, this visa measure is a reflection of today’s Algeria: a regime running out of steam, disconnected from reality, thinking it can impose barriers on Moroccans who, let’s be honest, have no desire to visit a country in complete decline.
Let the Algerian junta keep its visas, its shortages, and its chaos! We, in Morocco, have far better things to do, in a country that is moving forward, opening up to the world, and has no need to hide behind such futile and useless measures.
