Marrakech: Agreement Signed Between Morocco and the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) to Strengthen African Mining Governance
A memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening African mining governance was signed on Monday in Marrakech between the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and the Africa Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG), on the sidelines of the 2nd edition of the Morocco International Mining Congress (IMC 2025).

Signed by the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and the Secretary General of AMSG, Moses Micheal, this agreement reflects the joint efforts of the Kingdom and its African partners to promote responsible, inclusive and sustainable mining governance.
This partnership aims to accelerate the implementation of several major continental initiatives coordinated by Morocco, including the African ESG Framework (Environment, Social and Governance) and the OTC Corridor (Origination–Transit–Certification), launched in December 2024.
Cooperation between the two parties will focus on ESG governance, the digitalization of value chains, the establishment of continental certification platforms, as well as the organization of federating events for the entire African mining sector.
The AMSG, a strategic platform coordinating African policies in the field of mineral resources, was established by African Ministers in charge of mining during the 3rd Future Minerals Forum held in Riyadh in January 2024.
Organized by the Moroccan Mining Industry Federation (FDIM), in partnership with AME Trade Ltd., and with the support of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), this event positions Morocco as a reference in responsible mining and industrial transformation in the 21st century, highlighting its role as a gateway to Africa’s critical minerals and the global green transition.
The program of this event, which continues until November 26, includes high-level plenary sessions on sustainable value chains, geopolitical challenges, mining sovereignty, responsible practices and the role of strategic minerals in the energy transition, as well as thematic sessions dedicated to geomaterials, water management in mining, skills development, logistics corridors and the role of women in the sector.
The congress will also feature the presentation of flagship projects transforming the mining industry in Morocco and across Africa, as well as dedicated spaces for qualified professional meetings and institutional and industrial networking.
