Rulani Mokwena Handed Suspended Prison Sentence in Algeria: A Dramatic Turn for Former Wydad Casablanca Coach

South African coach Rulani Mokwena, formerly in charge of Wydad Casablanca and JS Kabylie, has been sentenced by a court in Algiers to two months in prison, suspended, along with the confiscation of 14,200 euros, approximately 15,300 dollars. He was also fined 500 dollars after being implicated in a case involving foreign exchange violations and illegal currency trafficking.

The incident came to light at Algiers’ Houari Boumédiène International Airport, at a time when his team had just won the Algerian Super Cup and was leading the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1. His departure from the club was later formalized in line with a contract termination clause, following a mutual agreement.

Rulani Mokwena has since been released after completing the required legal procedures in Algeria and could soon return to coaching, with a potential move to Libya’s Al-Ittihad Club.
