Morocco and Bahrain Seek to Elevate Their Distinguished Relations to the Level of a Complementary and Solidarity-Based Partnership (Bahraini Foreign Minister)

The Kingdoms of Morocco and Bahrain seek to elevate their distinguished relations to the level of a complementary and solidarity-based partnership, Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said on Monday in Laayoune.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, following their talks held on the sidelines of the 6th session of the Morocco-Bahrain High Joint Commission, Al Zayani stated that discussions covered all levels of bilateral cooperation as well as ways to raise the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries to the level of a complementary and solidarity-based partnership, in accordance with the far-sighted vision of their Sovereigns.

In this regard, the Bahraini Foreign Minister noted that the High Joint Commission provided an opportunity to review the progress achieved in cooperation between the two Kingdoms across various areas of common interest, adding that this 6th session commended all these achievements.

The talks also addressed developments in the region and the efforts deployed at regional and international levels to reach political solutions through dialogue and diplomacy, he noted, stressing that both countries remain committed to this approach.

Furthermore, Al Zayani continued, emphasis was placed on the need to pursue coordination and consultation in order to address the challenges and crises facing Arab countries in particular, with a view to preserving regional security and stability and defending the interests of Arab and Islamic countries.

Regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, the Bahraini minister reaffirmed his country’s “constant support” for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco and its full sovereignty over its Sahara, while praising “the historic United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, which enshrined the autonomy initiative, under Moroccan sovereignty, as the sole basis for resolving this regional dispute.”

Al Zayani also stressed the importance of continuing coordination between the two countries in order to unify their positions within various regional and international organisations, recalling that the Kingdom of Bahrain will serve in 2026 and 2027 as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to address various Arab, Islamic and international issues, to underline the importance of coordination in contributing to the preservation of international peace and security, and to reiterate firm support for the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State with East Al-Quds as its capital, the Bahraini Foreign Minister added.
