Morocco vs Cameroon (2 to 0): Walid Regragui hails a historic victory, calls for keeping feet on the ground
The victory of the Moroccan national team over Cameroon (2 to 0) on Friday night in the quarter finals of the Africa Cup of Nations was “historic,” national coach Walid Regragui said, while calling for keeping feet on the ground despite qualification for the semi finals.

“This is the first time in 22 years that Morocco have qualified for the last four. The victory is deserved, but another match, once again historic, awaits us in the semi finals,” Regragui said during the post match press conference at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The national coach praised the quality of the Cameroonian team, which “will have its say in the years to come.”
Regragui also highlighted the role of the crowd. “We played with twelve men and delivered our best first half since the 2022 World Cup. The match became more balanced in the second half, especially when the Cameroonians tried to get back into the game,” he said.
According to him, the national team rose to the occasion “like a great team,” adding that Morocco is now “where it should be.”
“We are two matches away from the title, but we have not achieved anything yet. We have to move forward match by match. We want to make history,” he stressed.
Regarding the next opponent of the Atlas Lions in the semi finals, Regragui said he was confident in his players’ ability to meet this new challenge.
“If Algeria qualify, it will be a historic derby. If it is Nigeria, it will be a completely different style of play. We have no preference,” he said.
For his part, Ismael Saibari, named man of the match, said that “the game was very intense, but the players felt good and managed to produce a solid performance.”
“From a defensive point of view, we were ready and we managed to convert the chances we created,” he said, adding that the national team will do everything it can to win the title.
“We are now focused on the semi finals and we will work extremely hard to reach the final,” he added.
The Moroccan national team qualified for the semi finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a 2 to 0 victory over Cameroon.
The goals were scored by Brahim Diaz in the 26th minute and Ismail Saibari in the 74th.
