Moroccan Parliament Takes Part in the 24th Winter Session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

A Moroccan parliamentary delegation took part in the 24th Winter Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, held on February 19 and 20 at the Hofburg Congress Center in Vienna.

This participation forms part of the sustained diplomatic momentum of the Moroccan Parliament, aimed at strengthening its presence within multilateral parliamentary forums and consolidating its active engagement in international debates on security, stability, and sustainable development, according to a statement from the legislative institution.

It reflects the Parliament’s determination to reinforce cooperation and political dialogue with the Kingdom’s partners, particularly within the European sphere, in a way that serves shared interests and deepens bridges of understanding and rapprochement.

The session’s proceedings were marked by in-depth discussions within the Assembly’s four committees, where participants addressed several pressing international issues. Key topics included the strengthening of international security and peace mechanisms amid accelerating geopolitical shifts, in line with the Helsinki principles.

The meetings also examined mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of electoral processes against hybrid threats and attempts at external interference, as well as the growing interplay between geo-economics, technology, and security, and the challenges and opportunities arising from these dynamics in a rapidly evolving global context.

On the sidelines of the session, the Moroccan delegation held high-level talks with the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Joan Pons, and the Assembly’s Special Representative for Mediterranean Affairs, Pascal Allizard.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to commend Morocco as a reliable and stable partner in the region. Both sides agreed to broaden bilateral cooperation to include new strategic issues, while highlighting the Kingdom’s central role as a bridge between the Euro-Mediterranean and African regions.

The Moroccan Parliament holds the status of Mediterranean Partner for Cooperation with the OSCE.

The Moroccan delegation included, for the House of Representatives, MP Marouane Chbaatou of the National Rally of Independents group and MP Khalid Hatimy of the Authenticity and Modernity Party group. Representing the House of Councillors were Councillor Chaimae Zemzami of the RNI group and Councillor Lahcen Ait Isha of the PAM group.

Numerous parliamentary delegations from OSCE member states and partner countries, along with experts, diplomatic representatives, and academics specializing in the Organization’s strategic agenda, also took part in the Winter Session.
