Gianni Infantino: Morocco has the stature of a future World Champion

Moroccan football continues its rise and is no longer leaving the highest circles of world football indifferent. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has once again expressed his admiration for the Kingdom’s remarkable progress, stating that the Moroccan national team now has all the qualities needed to aim for the ultimate World Cup title.

It was during an exchange with followers on his Instagram account that the head of world football was asked about Morocco’s chances in upcoming World Cup editions. His answer was clear and unambiguous: Morocco can legitimately aspire to the title, on the same level as the great historic football nations.

In a video statement, Infantino revisited the striking performances delivered by the Atlas Lions in recent years. He stressed that Morocco has established itself as a benchmark, both on the international stage and in youth competitions. The U20 World Cup triumph in Chile, combined with the exceptional run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, illustrates, in his view, the maturity and competitiveness now reached by Moroccan football.

These remarks confirm Morocco’s new status, now firmly established among the world’s elite. The historic achievement at the 2022 World Cup, unprecedented for an African nation, marked a decisive turning point, further strengthened by an ambitious training policy and the long-term structuring of national football.

With the 2026 World Cup approaching, which will feature 48 teams for the first time, Gianni Infantino believes Morocco enters this milestone with solid arguments. “All the conditions are in place for them to approach this event with confidence,” he said.

By taking such a stance, the FIFA President signals a profound shift in perception. Morocco is no longer merely an outsider capable of occasional exploits, but a credible and ambitious nation, equipped to play leading roles and legitimately aspire, in the long term, to the summit of world football.
