Rabat: Agreement signed on renewable energy electricity production projects

An agreement concerning electricity production projects from renewable energy sources was signed on Monday in Rabat under the chairmanship of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

The agreement aims to implement integrated projects for the production of electricity from renewable energies, as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen energy efficiency in Morocco, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, according to a statement from the Department of the Head of Government.

The agreement brings together the Government, the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN), and the National Agency for Strategic Management of State Holdings and Monitoring the Performance of Public Institutions and Enterprises (ANGSPE).

Falling within the framework of efforts to give new momentum to the implementation of the National Renewable Energy Program (PNER), this agreement represents an important step toward rebuilding an effective partnership between the government and public institutions and enterprises operating in the renewable energy sector, in order to ensure a sovereign, efficient, and sustainable energy transition.

It will make it possible to accelerate the provision of 5 gigawatts of green electricity for the benefit of Moroccan industry by 2030, while optimizing costs across the entire value chain and ensuring a fair distribution of responsibilities between ONEE and MASEN.

This partnership also guarantees contractual and economic stability for renewable energy projects, in line with the objectives of the State’s participation policy aimed at strengthening complementarity and convergence between public institutions and enterprises.

Quoted in the statement, the Head of Government affirmed that, thanks to the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, renewable energies today represent 46% of Morocco’s installed electricity production capacity, with the goal of raising this share to more than 52% by 2030.

He emphasized the government’s strong commitment to consolidating the foundations of a sustainable energy transition, making renewable energies a key pillar of the Kingdom’s development path.

The agreement was signed, on one side, by the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, and on the other side, by the Director General of ANGSPE, the Director General of ONEE, and the Chairman and CEO of MASEN.
