Morocco Strengthens Energy and Mining Cooperation with Mauritania at the Mauritanides Conference
Morocco’s participation in the 7th edition of the Mauritanides Conference, held from September 8 to 10 in Nouakchott, highlighted the Kingdom’s determination to deepen its ties with Mauritania, particularly in the strategic sectors of mining, hydrocarbons, and energy.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Khalid Amrouch, Director of Asset Investment Management and Promotion at ONHYM, stressed that this cooperation is in line with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of strengthened African integration.
Among the flagship projects is the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline, a partnership between ONHYM, Nigeria’s NNPC, and the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company. This initiative reflects a shared ambition to build an energy interconnection that serves regional development.
Morocco also emphasizes its strategic assets: a geographical position linking Africa to Europe, an attractive legal framework, existing energy interconnections, and a stable investment climate.
ONHYM, in keeping with its mission, continues to develop a diversified energy mix, combining the valorization of fossil and mineral resources with a strong focus on future energies, such as natural hydrogen and geothermal power.
This cooperation with Mauritania, based on knowledge-sharing and training, represents a key lever to support the energy transition and promote sustainable, inclusive development.
