Closure of the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech

The 93rd session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO INTERPOL) concluded its work on Thursday in Marrakech with the adoption of a series of resolutions aimed at strengthening the organization’s action and capabilities.

Discussions during this session, which brought together more than 800 delegates from 179 countries, including 82 police chiefs, focused in particular on the growing threat posed by transnational scam centers, the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime and the pilot phase of financial notices and diffusions.

Other topics included strengthening INTERPOL’s regional presence, revising the legal framework governing data processing and adopting the organization’s strategic framework for 2026 to 2030.

This 93rd session was marked by the election of French delegate Lucas Philippe as the new president of the organization for a four year term, succeeding Ahmed Naser Al Raisi of the United Arab Emirates whose mandate has ended.

In addition to the president, INTERPOL’s General Assembly elected five new members to its Executive Committee, including a vice president for Asia and delegates representing Africa, Asia and Europe for a three year term.

It was also announced that the next session of the INTERPOL General Assembly will take place in Hong Kong, China in 2026. On this occasion, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, handed the INTERPOL flag to the representatives of Hong Kong, China in the presence of the outgoing president Ahmed Naser Al Raisi, the newly elected president Lucas Philippe and Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza, as well as members of the Executive Committee. The two representatives of the next host country expressed their thanks to Morocco for this “remarkable 93rd session that will remain engraved in the organization’s history.”

The closing ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers Mohamed Ben Ali Koman, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad Nasser Bourita, the Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget Fouzi Lekjaa, General Mohamed Haramou, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie, the Director General of Studies and Documentation Mohamed Yassine Mansouri and the Wali of the Marrakech Safi region and governor of the Marrakech prefecture, Khatib El Hebil.

As INTERPOL’s highest governing body, the General Assembly is the largest global gathering of law enforcement leadership. It provides an opportunity for member countries to build relationships and share expertise. Each year, the General Assembly reviews crime trends and global security threats.

The Assembly makes all major decisions related to general policy, resources required for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programs of activity. These decisions take the form of resolutions.

Created in 1923, INTERPOL is an international criminal police organization whose main mission is to support national capabilities and facilitate the exchange of information and expertise among security services in its 196 member states to better prevent and combat the transnational ramifications of crime and security threats.
