5th Edition of the Electoral Observers Training Cycle: African Union recognizes Morocco’s leadership in promoting democratic governance in Africa

African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Adeoye Bankole presented an award to Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita in recognition of Morocco’s exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to democratic governance, peace and security across Africa.

The distinction was awarded to Bourita during the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the African Union Electoral Observers Training Cycle, a flagship program recognized across the continent that marks five years of strategic partnership between Morocco and the African Union Department of Political Affairs, Peace and Security.

The recognition also highlights the relevance of Morocco’s approach, based on solidarity-driven, pragmatic and results-oriented South-South cooperation, as well as continental acknowledgment of the Kingdom’s active role in promoting stability and good governance in Africa, in line with the enlightened Vision of King Mohammed VI.

For the past five years, the Kingdom of Morocco has contributed to the training of election observers in Africa. In this framework, nearly 400 individuals, including men, women, youth and persons with disabilities from 53 African countries representing the continent’s five regions, have been trained in Rabat since 2022.
