The President of the House of Councillors Receives the Senegalese Prime Minister in Rabat

The President of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, held talks on Monday in Rabat with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Senegal, Ousmane Sonko, who is on a working visit to Morocco at the head of a high-level delegation.

Following the meeting, Mohamed Ould Errachid highlighted the depth and solidity of the relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal. He stressed that these ties, forged over long decades of cooperation and solidarity, are built on values of mutual respect and shared interests, reflecting the sincere fraternity between the two peoples.

The President of the House of Councillors also welcomed the advanced level reached by bilateral relations, emphasizing the importance of this visit in energizing parliamentary cooperation and strengthening mechanisms of dialogue and consultation between the legislative institutions of the two countries.

In this context, he called for Moroccan–Senegalese cooperation to be made a model of integration and solidarity in West Africa, capable of consolidating regional peace and stability, which are considered essential levers for sustainable and inclusive development.

Mohamed Ould Errachid also outlined the major orientations of the Kingdom’s African policy, conducted under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting Morocco’s structuring role in supporting development efforts across the African continent.

He notably referred to the Royal Initiative aimed at providing Sahel countries with strategic access to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Atlantic African gas pipeline project, presented as structuring projects serving economic integration and shared development.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on several issues of common interest, particularly those related to strengthening parliamentary cooperation, as well as the social and human dimensions of relations between the two countries.

For his part, the Senegalese Prime Minister stressed that relations between Senegal and Morocco rest on solid foundations, nourished by deep human, spiritual, economic and cultural ties. He also highlighted the unique historical dynamic characterizing these relations, marked by the mobility of people, the exchange of knowledge and mutual political trust built over time.

Ousmane Sonko specified that his visit to Rabat, organized within the framework of the work of the 15th session of the Higher Joint Commission between the two countries, reflects a shared desire to consolidate and further develop this exceptional partnership, in line with the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples for more structured and effective cooperation founded on solidarity.

Those attending the meeting included, in particular, members of the Bureau of the House of Councillors, Ahmed Akhchichen, Yahfdhou Ben M’Barek, Miloud Maâssid and Mohamed Salem Benmassaoud, as well as the Secretary General of the House, Assad Zerouali, the Head of Cabinet of the President, Mansour El Moubarki, and the Director of External Relations and Communication, Saad Ghazi.
