Nasser Bourita on 2M: “The Security Council’s decision confirms the soundness and foresight of the Royal Vision”

On Saturday, November 1, 2025, in an exclusive interview with the national television channel 2M, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, offered an in-depth analysis of the scope and implications of the historic resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council, which recognizes the Autonomy Plan proposed by Morocco as the sole and serious basis for reaching a definitive political solution to the question of the Moroccan Sahara.

Under the title “The UN Decision Enshrines the Royal Vision”, the interview, skillfully conducted by journalists Sanae Rahimi, Ridouane Erramdani, and Abdellah Tourabi, revisited the key stages of the Sahara dossier, from its inclusion on the international agenda to this major diplomatic milestone that consolidates the Kingdom’s legitimate and rightful position.

A consecration of His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s farsighted vision

From the very beginning of the interview, Nasser Bourita emphasized that this diplomatic achievement is no coincidence, but rather the result of a strategic, consistent, and coherent Royal Vision. According to the Minister, since His accession to the Throne, His Majesty King Mohammed VI has made the Sahara issue a national priority, guided by a diplomacy of action, credibility, and anticipation.

“The Security Council’s decision is, above all, a clear recognition of the relevance and wisdom of the Royal approach. The Sovereign has guided our diplomacy toward realism, partnership, and legitimacy,” said Mr. Bourita.

The Autonomy Plan: a project for peace and regional stability

Referring to the content of the resolution adopted by 11 votes in favor, the head of Moroccan diplomacy stressed that the centrality of the Autonomy Plan was reaffirmed — not as one option among others, but as the only serious, credible, and realistic basis for ending an artificial dispute that has long hindered Maghreb regional integration.

“The Security Council has validated a new political direction: one of constructive dialogue within the framework of realism. And realism means the Autonomy Plan,” stated Mr. Bourita.

The Minister also recalled that more than 90 countries worldwide have already expressed their support for this plan, while numerous regional and international powers — including the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain — have reaffirmed their support for Morocco’s full and entire sovereignty over its Southern Provinces.

The secret behind international consensus: Moroccan credibility and consistency

When asked about the reasons for this broad international consensus around Morocco’s position, Nasser Bourita highlighted the constancy of the Kingdom’s diplomacy. Far from opportunistic shifts or ambiguity, Morocco has built a foreign policy rooted in clarity, transparency, and fidelity to its international commitments.

“What the international community respects about Morocco’s position is its coherence. Morocco has never wavered: there is no ambiguity, no duplicity. It is a principled position based on law, history, and legitimacy,” he stated.

Mr. Bourita also underlined the crucial role of the American stance expressed by President Donald Trump, as well as that of European, African, and Arab partners in this process, recalling that more than 30 consulates general have been opened in Laâyoune and Dakhla — tangible symbols of international recognition of the Moroccan nature of the Sahara.

A diplomacy of reconciliation and responsibility in service of a united Maghreb

Nasser Bourita confirmed that, in a spirit of calm and responsibility, Morocco does not consider the adoption of the UN resolution as a victory against anyone, but as a collective recognition of a constructive approach serving peace and regional development.

He added that His Majesty King Mohammed VI, guarantor of national unity and the rights of all citizens, has strongly reiterated that Moroccans, wherever they are, are equal in rights and duties, with no distinction between those returning from the Tindouf camps and their brothers throughout the rest of the Kingdom.

The Sovereign emphasized that Morocco does not brandish this development as a trophy, nor seeks to exacerbate differences. On the contrary, it represents a step toward reconciliation and the reconstruction of a shared future, as the Kingdom remains firmly committed to reviving the Arab Maghreb Union as a space of cooperation, mutual respect, and complementarity among its five member states.

“This moment is not one of triumphalism, but of responsibility and shared hope,” concluded the Minister.

A victory for the Kingdom and the Moroccan people

Nasser Bourita dedicated this diplomatic victory to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and to the Moroccan people, stressing that this UN recognition marks a decisive step toward consolidating Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara, as well as a tribute to the patient, effective, and visionary diplomatic work carried out under the Sovereign’s leadership.

“This is not the end of a process, but the beginning of a new era in which Morocco asserts its model of stability, peace, and development in the region,” concluded the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The interview with Mr. Nasser Bourita on 2M will remain a historic turning point — that of a victorious, sovereign Morocco, legitimately recognized in its rights, driven by the foresight and diplomacy of a unifying and visionary King.
