Fuel Prices: New Surge Expected in Morocco Starting Monday, March 16

According to the new rates that will come into effect, the price of diesel will increase by 2 dirhams per liter, while Super unleaded gasoline will rise by 1.44 dirhams per liter. This development directly reflects the impact of global energy price fluctuations on the national market.

This adjustment comes less than two weeks after a first increase observed at the beginning of March, when distributors had already applied a rise of 25 centimes per liter for both diesel and gasoline.

With this new revision, prices at the pump are expected to reach significantly higher levels. The price of diesel, which stood at around 10.80 dirhams per liter, could approach 12.80 dirhams. Meanwhile, Super unleaded gasoline could rise from approximately 12.49 dirhams to nearly 13.93 dirhams per liter. These figures remain indicative, however, as prices may vary slightly depending on distribution networks and service stations.

This increase marks a clear reversal of the downward trend recorded at the beginning of the year, notably when diesel briefly fell below the symbolic threshold of 10 dirhams at the end of December.

The international context remains marked by strong volatility in energy markets, fueled in particular by conflicts in the Middle East and tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic passage for the transport of a large share of the world’s oil.

In a system where domestic prices are closely linked to international quotations for refined petroleum products, any fluctuation on global markets quickly affects prices applied in Morocco. This new increase could therefore revive concerns related to household purchasing power, as well as transportation and logistics costs, which directly influence the prices of many goods and services.
