UN – Sahara: Burkina Faso Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative
Burkina Faso reiterated on Monday in New York its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative, presented by the Kingdom in 2007 to end the regional dispute over the Sahara.

Speaking before the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly, Hermann Yirigouin Toe, Secretary-General at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, emphasized that his country supports the Moroccan autonomy plan, describing it as serious and credible.
Burkina Faso also commended Morocco’s efforts in development, infrastructure, and social inclusion in favor of the populations of its Southern Provinces.
The Burkinabè diplomat further reaffirmed his country’s constant support for the political process led under the auspices of the United Nations, citing the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy for the Moroccan Sahara to achieve a “realistic, pragmatic, and lasting solution” to the regional dispute.
He also stressed his country’s conviction that stability in North Africa and peace in the Sahel are closely linked, expressing confidence that a peaceful resolution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara would help strengthen the collective fight against terrorism and consolidate regional security.
