Casablanca: Spotlight on Economic Cooperation Opportunities Between Morocco and Pakistan

Opportunities for developing economic and trade cooperation between Morocco and Pakistan were highlighted on Thursday in Casablanca.

During a Morocco-Pakistan Economic Forum, organized by the Casablanca-Settat Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services (CCISCS) in collaboration with the Embassy of Pakistan in Rabat and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan – Morocco–Pakistan Business Council, Moroccan and Pakistani business leaders and investors discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation and enhance mutual investment between the two countries.

Speaking on the occasion, CCISCS President Hassane Berkani stated that the forum, held as part of a visit by a delegation of Pakistani businesspeople to Morocco from October 29 to 31, provides an opportunity to deepen dialogue between economic actors of the two countries and explore new prospects for bilateral economic partnership.

According to him, the forum aims to better understand investment opportunities and mechanisms in Pakistan, considered a promising business hub, while also highlighting Morocco’s strong economic and commercial advantages across various sectors.

He noted that trade exchanges between Morocco and Pakistan have not yet reached the level of the countries’ economic potential, assuring that “we will work to consolidate and strengthen economic and trade relations between our two countries, with Morocco serving as the gateway to Africa and Pakistan as the gateway to South Asia.”

“We also invite businesspeople and investors from both countries to take advantage of joint opportunities and invest in promising sectors in Morocco and Pakistan,” he added.

On his part, Ishtiaq Baig, Honorary Consul of Morocco in Pakistan and President of the Morocco–Pakistan Business Council, told MAP that the forum includes the participation of around 20 Pakistani businesspeople representing different economic sectors.

“This is a platform to discuss ways to strengthen trade between the two countries and develop bilateral economic cooperation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ali Tazi, Honorary Consul of Pakistan in Morocco, noted that economic relations between Pakistan and Morocco have reached a “very interesting, yet still insufficient” level.

In this regard, Mr. Tazi emphasized that “there is significant work to be done in exporting Moroccan products to Pakistan, a market of over 200 million people.”

“Since Morocco is a hub for Africa, Pakistan, through the Kingdom, can also position itself on the African continent,” he added, noting that a delegation of Moroccan businesspeople will visit Pakistan next year to continue this exchange initiative aimed at promoting economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

The forum also featured B2B meetings between Moroccan and Pakistani business leaders to establish contacts and explore concrete cooperation opportunities that could benefit the economies of both countries, particularly in the textile, tourism, pharmaceutical, agro-food, real estate, and construction sectors.
