Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch Highlights the Strength of the Morocco–Senegal Partnership
Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch chaired, on Monday, January 26, 2026, in Rabat, the opening session of the 15th Morocco–Senegal Joint Commission for Cooperation, on which occasion he underlined the exceptional quality of the relations uniting the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal, as well as their shared ambition to elevate this partnership to an even more advanced level.

In his opening address, the Head of the Executive stressed the historical depth of the ties between Rabat and Dakar, relations forged over centuries through human, commercial, cultural, and spiritual exchanges. This unique closeness, he recalled, today constitutes a solid foundation for political and economic cooperation that continues to evolve.
Aziz Akhannouch highlighted the robust legal framework governing bilateral cooperation, built on more than 140 agreements covering a wide range of sectors. This body of instruments has helped ensure the continuity of the partnership and support its adaptation to regional and international changes, while fostering sustained interaction between institutions and economic operators in both countries.
The Head of Government also noted that Morocco–Senegal relations have gained renewed momentum in recent months, marked by intensified ministerial exchanges and a rise in cross-investments. In this context, he emphasized the importance of greater involvement by the private sector, calling for the stimulation of trade flows and the encouragement of joint entrepreneurial initiatives. The parallel holding of an economic forum and the signing of targeted agreements reflect this determination to pursue concrete action.
A convergence of views on regional and African issues
At the regional level, Aziz Akhannouch recalled the central role played by Morocco and Senegal in promoting African integration and South–South cooperation. In the face of security and economic challenges in the Sahel and the African Atlantic area, the two countries share a common vision centered on stability, co-development, and regional openness.
In this regard, he referred to several structuring initiatives led by the Kingdom, notably projects aimed at facilitating access for Sahelian countries to the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the African gas pipeline linking Nigeria to Morocco, underlining the strategic importance of Senegal in these large-scale continental projects.
A partnership based on trust and solidarity
The Head of Government also expressed Morocco’s appreciation for Senegal’s constant support for the Kingdom’s national causes on the international stage, particularly its backing of the Moroccan autonomy initiative, welcomed by the United Nations Security Council.
Finally, Aziz Akhannouch emphasized the unifying role of youth, sport, and culture in bringing peoples closer together, recalling the successful organization of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and the ongoing preparations for the 2030 World Cup, co-hosted with Spain and Portugal.
Through this 15th session of the Joint Commission, Morocco and Senegal thus reaffirm their commitment to consolidating an exemplary partnership, one that carries stability, prosperity, and shared ambitions for the future of the African continent.
