Karim Zidane: Moroccan-Spanish economic relations are experiencing exceptional momentum
Economic relations between Morocco and Spain are witnessing exceptional momentum, said on Wednesday in Madrid the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence and the Evaluation of Public Policies, Karim Zidane.

Speaking at a business forum held on the eve of the 13th Morocco–Spain High-Level Meeting, Mr. Zidane stressed that economic ties between the two countries have reached a historic milestone, with the bilateral relationship now anchored “in continuity, predictability and mutual trust”.
This momentum has shown remarkable resilience in the face of the fragmentation of the international system, making the Moroccan-Spanish partnership a structuring axis of the Euro-Mediterranean space, he noted with satisfaction.
Mr. Zidane underlined that the year 2024 clearly illustrated this progress, with trade flows exceeding 24 billion euros, reflecting an unprecedented level of economic integration.
Morocco and Spain, he said, have the capacity to “build a space of shared prosperity based on a common vision, trust and ambition, and capable of providing concrete responses to the major challenges of our time”.
Recalling that Spain is Morocco’s leading trading partner and one of its closest industrial partners, with nearly 1,000 Spanish companies established in the Kingdom, the minister stressed that Morocco has now become a major economic partner for Spain outside the European Union.
This reality confirms that “it is no longer merely geographical proximity, but genuine structural proximity, since our value chains complement one another, our industries reinforce each other and our development paths are converging”, he insisted.
Under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco is pursuing a profound economic transformation and moving decisively toward a model based on productive investment, industrial competitiveness, energy transition and technological innovation, Mr. Zidane affirmed.
He added that the development of renewable energy, the rise of electric mobility, the growing strength of the automotive industry and digitalization are positioning the Kingdom as a key regional player.
In this context, he argued, bilateral relations are entering a new phase: a strategic co-production partnership built on the convergence of industrial ambitions and the alignment of energy models.
Beyond the bilateral dimension, Morocco represents one of the most natural and credible gateways to Africa, while Spain enjoys a unique position in Europe and Latin America, he noted, pointing out that the two countries are capable of developing regional and African value chains that can compete with the most efficient economic blocs.
Mr. Zidane concluded by calling for this promising momentum to be transformed into a structuring dynamic, by converting trade into investment and investment into sustainable ecosystems.
