A partnership agreement was signed on Monday in Nouakchott between the Mauritanian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Moroccan School of Engineering Sciences (EMSI), aimed at promoting bilateral academic cooperation and the upcoming opening of an EMSI campus in the Mauritanian capital.

Concluded in the presence of the Mauritanian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Yacoub Ould Moine, and the Ambassador of Morocco to Nouakchott, Hamid Chabar, the agreement was initialed by Mohamed El Amine Ould Hamady, Director of Higher Education at the Ministry, and Mohamed El Rhabi, Director General of EMSI.

The agreement, which seeks to provide quality training tailored to local needs and expectations, includes a curriculum covering several specialties, notably computer engineering and networks, automation and industrial computing, civil engineering, construction and public works, industrial engineering, as well as electrical engineering and intelligent systems.

On this occasion, Hassan Filali, CEO of the university network Honoris, of which EMSI is a member, praised the strategic and proactive vision of the Mauritanian Ministry, illustrated by its decision to host a Moroccan institution specializing in engineering training. According to him, this initiative places Mauritania among the first African countries to concretely anticipate the requirements of the engineering profession of the future.

This decision, he added, will provide a valuable contribution to the future of Mauritanian youth, while positioning Nouakchott as a hub of academic excellence in Africa.

He also noted that this is a promising beginning for knowledge transfer and expertise sharing, with the ambition of making Nouakchott a center of high-level training in West Africa.

For his part, the Director of Higher Education at the Mauritanian Ministry of Higher Education reaffirmed his department’s commitment to fostering cooperation with renowned universities and institutes, with the aim of aligning the Mauritanian education system with the best international practices.

Describing the signing of this agreement as “a decisive turning point in bilateral academic cooperation,” he stressed that “this pioneering initiative marks the beginning of a new model of South-South cooperation.”
