Rabat: Mehdi Bensaid Highlights the Crucial Role of the Press in Supporting National Causes and Defending the Kingdom’s Supreme Interests

The national press plays a crucial role in supporting national causes and defending the Kingdom’s supreme interests, said Monday in Rabat the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.

Speaking at the award ceremony of the 23rd edition of the National Grand Prize of the Press, the minister noted that following the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara, the Moroccan press is now called upon to accompany this major turning point, driven under the wise and visionary leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, given the essential role of the press in defending the great national causes and the supreme interests of the country through information, analysis and debate.

In this regard, he stressed that the press is not only a profession, but a noble public service and a pillar of democracy through the revelation of truth and the dissemination of reliable and responsible information, adding that a free press ensures transparency in public action.

Mr. Bensaid also emphasized that the journalist of tomorrow must master research, verification, processing and in-depth data analysis, while respecting the principles of digital responsibility and professional ethics.

The minister also highlighted the current challenges facing the sector, particularly its economic model, digital transition and the need to address all segments of society through proximity.

Regarding the National Grand Prize of the Press, Mr. Bensaid recalled that this prize, established by His Majesty the King on November 15, 2002, represents an annual occasion to encourage Moroccan journalistic talent and to honor senior professionals who have served the field and contributed actively to defending its values and noble mission.

He expressed his sincere thanks to all those who contributed to the success of this edition, especially the president and members of the jury, praising their considerable efforts and professional work in evaluating the submitted journalistic productions. He also highlighted his department’s readiness to positively consider their recommendations and proposals.

He concluded that the Moroccan press, by its historical vocation as a partner in building democracy and serving society, moves forward with confidence and will remain a responsible and active actor supporting society and its progress.
