CAF Hands Harsh Sanctions to AS FAR: Closed-Door Matches and $100,000 Fine
The Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (AS FAR) announced in an official statement that it has received disciplinary measures from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following incidents during its match against Egypt’s Al Ahly in late November, part of the second round of the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
According to the statement, CAF’s disciplinary committee decided to punish the Moroccan military club with two matches behind closed doors for its next home fixtures in continental competitions. In addition to this sporting sanction, the club was fined $100,000.
These measures follow several violations observed during the match, including the use of lasers, throwing of bottles, the introduction of balls onto the pitch, and the launching of a metallic object deemed dangerous for players and officials.
The statement also notes that these decisions come after a clear breach of the CAF Disciplinary Code and security regulations. Despite the sanctions, AS FAR reaffirmed its commitment to comply with the rules governing African competitions.
Concluding its communiqué, the club expressed regret over the sanctions and urged supporters to demonstrate fair play and responsible behavior in stadiums, in order to protect the club’s interests and ensure positive participation in future continental fixtures.
