World Cup 2026: Atlas Lions placed in a manageable group with Brazil, Scotland and Haiti
The draw for the 2026 World Cup, held on Friday 5 November in Washington, revealed the composition of the groups for the upcoming edition. Morocco will compete in Group C, where it will face three opponents with contrasting profiles: Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.
It is a group that promises intensity and excitement, especially since the Atlas Lions will be closely watched after their historic run to the semifinals at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
A reunion with Brazil and Scotland:
Morocco will once again cross paths with Brazil, a nation it has faced only once in a World Cup final phase. That was in 1998 in France, where the Seleção earned a 3 to 0 victory. Times have changed, however. Their most recent meeting, a friendly held on 25 March 2023 at the Grand Stade de Tanger, ended in a memorable Ramadan-night win for the Atlas Lions, who prevailed 2 to 1.
The draw has also brought Morocco back together with Scotland, another opponent from the 1998 World Cup. The Lions claimed a remarkable 3 to 0 victory in that match, a result still remembered today even though it was not enough to secure qualification after Brazil’s surprising late defeat to Norway.
A major challenge but within reach for the Lions:
With a Brazil in reconstruction, a resilient Scotland and an ambitious Haitian team, Morocco finds itself in a group where every match will be decisive. Driven by a talented new generation and fresh World Cup experience, the Atlas Lions will approach this opening round with confidence, ambition and a status they never truly held before: that of a credible outsider capable of challenging the biggest nations.
