Abdelkader Amara and His Equatorial Guinean Counterpart Discuss Ways to Strengthen Cooperation

The President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) and of the Union of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions of Africa (UCESA), Abdelkader Amara, held talks on Monday with Marcelino Owono Edu, President of the National Council for Economic and Social Development of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (CNDES).

According to a statement from the CESE, the meeting—attended by Morocco’s ambassador to Malabo, Ghoulam Maichane, CESE Secretary General Younes Benakki, and senior officials from both sides—focused on the strategic partnership between the CESE and the CNDES of Equatorial Guinea.

The two officials discussed mechanisms to strengthen the role of their respective Councils in guiding and monitoring public policies, as well as opportunities to address common issues such as economic diversification, the blue economy, and youth employment. Mr. Amara reaffirmed the CESE’s full commitment to actively contribute to building the technical and managerial capacities of the CNDES.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the latest developments within the UCESA and its initiatives aimed at ensuring that citizens’ needs are reflected in the continent’s flagship projects, particularly in the field of energy transition.

For his part, Marcelino Owono Edu commended the pioneering role and strong continental positioning of Morocco’s CESE and its ongoing efforts at the African level. He also expressed his Council’s readiness to host the fifth roundtable between UCESA and China’s Economic and Social Council, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

This high-level dialogue forum will bring together the presidents of Africa’s Economic and Social Councils and their Chinese counterpart to discuss shared priorities within the Sino-African cooperation framework.

Both presidents welcomed the CNDES’s accession to UCESA and the promising prospects for cooperation between the two Councils, particularly in terms of sharing best practices. They agreed to pursue their dialogue and to sign a cooperation protocol in Rabat during an official visit by the CNDES delegation, led by its President, at the invitation of Mr. Amara, the statement concluded.
