Belgian jurist Philippe Liénard: The Growing Support of the International Community for the Moroccan Sahara Strengthened Thanks to the Diplomatic Choices of HM the King
Morocco, thanks to the vision and diplomatic choices of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has been able to consolidate the growing support of the international community for the Moroccan identity of the Sahara, emphasized Belgian jurist Philippe Liénard on Tuesday in Tangier.

Speaking at a conference organized by the Faculty of Legal, Economic, and Social Sciences of Tangier, under the theme “Sahara: Land of Morocco”, he affirmed that, thanks to HM the King’s diplomatic choices, Morocco has been able, with vigor and wisdom, to lead the international community and major powers to support its autonomy initiative presented in 2007.
Mr. Liénard, also a lawyer and honorary substitute judge, noted that Morocco has also undertaken several actions to promote socio-economic development and improve living conditions for the populations in its southern provinces.
Recalling Morocco’s multi-century history, he emphasized that the question of the Moroccan Sahara fits within this historical logic of legitimate unity, recognized notably through historical facts and contemporary diplomacy.
Mr. Liénard also praised the sustained development that the Kingdom is experiencing under the enlightened leadership of HM the King, as well as the various projects launched by the Sovereign, which will fully benefit the entire country.
“Under various aspects, Morocco is a state whose exemplary nature is cited worldwide for its progress and resilience,” he continued, highlighting that the Kingdom “has, for several years and in an accelerated manner, been committed to developing its Sahara.”
He also specified that the Kingdom now positions itself as a major power in Africa and the Arab world and as a first-rate partner of the West in several fields.
