Moroccan Sahara: U.S. Draft Resolution at the U.N. Security Council Definitively Enshrines Morocco’s Sovereignty
A new and resounding victory for Moroccan diplomacy. The United States of America has presented a historic draft resolution to the United Nations Security Council, reaffirming the growing international support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the only serious and credible basis for a definitive settlement of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

The text, backed by major world powers including Washington, Paris, London, Beijing, and Moscow, reinforces the Kingdom’s legitimate and sovereign position and marks another decisive step in the isolation of the Polisario Front and its Algerian sponsor.
According to the draft, “a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty constitutes the most relevant solution,” emphasizing that future negotiations must take place “exclusively on the basis of the Moroccan proposal.” This clear and unambiguous language puts an end to decades of fruitless debates and outdated approaches.
The American document, welcomed by several Council members, also sets a specific timetable, calling for the resumption of the Round Table discussions before the end of 2025, and for a final settlement by January 31, 2026, coinciding with the renewal deadline of MINURSO’s mandate. This timeline places Algeria and the Polisario squarely before their responsibilities in the eyes of the international community.
The draft resolution has been widely interpreted as a recognition of the diplomatic leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, whose visionary strategy has elevated the Sahara issue into a national cause that enjoys unwavering global support.
While Morocco advances confidently, supported by solid alliances and the legitimacy of its autonomy initiative, the Algerian regime continues to cling to a policy of obstruction, relying on a hypothetical Russian veto. That gamble appears increasingly futile, especially after recent remarks by the Russian Foreign Minister referring to the “artificial borders of Algeria.”
Today, the Moroccan Sahara stands as an irreversible reality, acknowledged by the world’s major capitals. The Autonomy Initiative, described by the Security Council itself as “serious, credible, and realistic,” has become the sole political horizon for lasting peace and regional stability.
Once again, Morocco’s Royal diplomacy demonstrates its mastery, consistency, and effectiveness, confirming that the national cause continues its steady march toward its victorious conclusion: the universal recognition of the Kingdom’s full sovereignty over its entire Sahara.
