Dakhla-Oued Eddahab: Guatemalan Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities and Cooperation Prospects
A high-level Guatemalan delegation, led by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guatemala, Julio Eduardo Orozco, visited Dakhla on Friday to explore the investment opportunities available in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and to discuss prospects for economic and trade cooperation with the Kingdom.

This visit took place as part of the Economic Promotion Week of the Republic of Guatemala in Morocco, which aims to highlight the Central American country’s economic potential in various sectors and to foster the development of mutually beneficial business partnerships.
On this occasion, the Guatemalan delegation held a meeting at the headquarters of the regional wilaya, during which the Acting Director of the Regional Investment Center, Ahmed Kathir, presented the region’s main productive sectors, including maritime fishing, agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy.
In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of a visit to the Dakhla Atlantic Port construction site, the Guatemalan Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his “great admiration” for the region’s development achievements under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. He also reaffirmed his country’s desire to benefit from the economic opportunities that the region offers.
He emphasized that Morocco represents, for Guatemala—which seeks to diversify its markets and open up to new partners—a strategic gateway to the African continent. He noted that the Kingdom has successfully transformed the region into a true hub of growth and prosperity through major structural projects such as the Dakhla Atlantic Port, seawater desalination projects, sustainable agriculture development, and the promotion of renewable energy.
The Guatemalan official also highlighted the dynamism of bilateral relations, which have been strengthened politically and diplomatically, recalling that Guatemala was the first Central American country to open a consulate in Dakhla.
This momentum, he continued, marks the beginning of a new phase of economic and trade cooperation, paving the way for joint projects and a stronger partnership between the two countries.
In addition to Vice Minister Julio Eduardo Orozco, the Guatemalan delegation included Gabriel Biguria De León, board member of AGEXPORT (the Guatemalan Exporters Association), Charles Band, President of the Coordinating Committee of Agricultural, Commercial, Industrial and Financial Associations, and Carla Caballeros, Executive Director of CAMAGRO, the association representing Guatemalan farmers.
