Rabat to host the first International Conference dedicated to African victims of terrorism on December 2 and 3
Morocco will host the first International Conference dedicated to African victims of terrorism on December 2 and 3, 2025. The event aims to highlight the human impact of terrorism across the continent and strengthen support and resilience mechanisms for affected communities.
The conference is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, with the support of the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism. It represents a first of its kind initiative centered on African victims and their role in shaping strategic discussions on preventing and combating violent extremism.
The event will bring together representatives from African governments, regional and international organizations, associations representing victims of terrorism, researchers and specialized experts in Rabat.
Discussions will also explore the role survivors can play in prevention programs and community resilience. Their testimonies and experience are expected to contribute to rebuilding affected areas and improving public responses.
Participants will address key topics including the human consequences of terrorism and the legal, institutional and socio economic challenges linked to support systems for victims.
This gathering takes place within the framework of cooperation between Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism, reinforced by the establishment of the UNOCT Programme Office for Africa in Rabat. The office has become a continental reference platform and promotes an African approach to counter terrorism based on capacity building, national ownership of public policy and solidarity.
Through this initiative, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to a human centered and inclusive approach to counter terrorism, placing victims and their rights at the core of both regional and international action.
