Ryad Mezzour: Morocco Offers a Concrete Example of a Successful “Made with Africa”
Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour stated on Wednesday in Rabat that Morocco now offers “a concrete illustration” of a successful “Made with Africa,” through an integrated, competitive, and export-oriented industrial model.
“In just two decades, our industry has become a truly integrated and competitive ecosystem geared toward export. We are now the leading producers of passenger cars in Africa, with an installed capacity of one million vehicles per year and a local integration rate of 69 percent,” said Mezzour in a pre-recorded video address at the opening of the 6th edition of the Choiseul Africa Business Forum.
As an aircraft engine assembler, Morocco also stands as a symbol of industrial and technological advancement, notably through the integrated complex for the assembly, testing, repair, and maintenance of Safran Group engines in Nouaceur, he added.
He further noted that Morocco, a continental leader in the sectors of batteries, fertilizers, and renewable energies, is establishing itself as a major industrial and energy hub for the continent. This trajectory, he emphasized, shows that by investing in training, infrastructure, and trust, Africa can become the world’s workshop of tomorrow.
In a rapidly changing global context, Mezzour stressed that “Africa is no longer just a land of the future, but the future itself, one that is being built today through endogenous, resilient, and inclusive economic models.”
According to him, the “Made with Africa” concept embodies a new form of chosen sovereignty, based on co-industrialization, co-innovation, and co-exportation, while drawing on Africa’s resources, talents, and know-how in a spirit of complementarity and shared ambition.
He called for the unification of resources, strengths, and intelligence to build a confident, competitive, and sovereign Africa that lives up to the aspirations of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the hopes of African youth.
The opening of the forum took place in the presence of Pascal Lorot, President of Choiseul Africa, and Paul Koffi Koffi, Commissioner for Business Development, Mining, Energy, and Digital Economy at the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
Held under the theme “Made with Africa: Industrialization, Innovation, and Exports for Shared Growth,” the event aims to promote strategic partnerships and position Africa as a key player in global value chains by leveraging industrial transformation and innovation as drivers of sustainable development.
This annual gathering brings together around 800 of the most influential economic and institutional decision-makers from Africa, Europe, and the Gulf, for strategic panels and working sessions dedicated to shaping the future of African economies. The program includes high-level roundtables and discussions to identify investment opportunities and strengthen the continent’s role in global economic debates.
