Inauguration on June 12, 2026, of the First Direct Air Route Between Montreal and Agadir

Thanks to the efforts of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), the Canadian airline Air Transat will inaugurate on June 12, 2026, the first direct flight between Montreal and Agadir. This new weekly connection marks a major milestone in Morocco’s strategy to diversify its markets and reduce seasonality, the ONMT said in a statement on Thursday.

The launch of the Montreal–Agadir route is part of ONMT’s international expansion strategy aimed at strengthening Morocco’s presence in the North American market.

The route is the result of prospecting and negotiation efforts led by ONMT with Air Transat, making it a historic first: it directly connects North America with southern Morocco, providing the Souss-Massa region with unprecedented access to a high-potential travel market.

The service will operate every Friday starting June 12, 2026. It is expected to reinforce Agadir’s role as the gateway to Atlantic Morocco while contributing to the revitalization of its tourism ecosystem.

The anticipated impact is multifaceted: boosting hotel occupancy, developing local activities, creating jobs, and better distributing tourist flows across the region.

Founded in Montreal 35 years ago, Air Transat, a subsidiary of the Transat A.T. Inc. group, is known for the quality of its service and its positioning in the leisure travel segment.

Voted “World’s Best Leisure Airline” by Skytrax for the third consecutive year, the airline will operate an Airbus A321LR of the new generation on this route, combining performance, comfort, and reduced environmental footprint.

With more than 174,000 Canadian visitors recorded by the end of August 2025, up 29% compared to the previous year, Canada is now a priority market in ONMT’s international strategy.

Following the launch of Montreal–Marrakech in 2024, the Montreal–Agadir route strengthens this positioning and demonstrates Morocco’s ability to attract new airline partners on high-value segments.

This new route reflects ONMT’s commitment to expanding the Kingdom’s international connectivity, diversifying target markets, and showcasing the richness of its destinations. Agadir is thus preparing to welcome its first regular transatlantic flight, the ONMT noted.
