Hostile campaigns against Morocco: Inside a destabilization strategy that is orchestrated but doomed to fail

For several days, Morocco has been the target of repeated media and digital attacks aimed at tarnishing its image and calling into question its standing in Africa. Far from being spontaneous or credible, these maneuvers are part of a well-known strategy of disinformation and destabilization, driven by circles hostile to the Kingdom and to its continental influence.

A Morocco firmly anchored in Africa, far from any marginalization

Contrary to the misleading narratives circulated by certain malicious outlets, Morocco has never been so present, influential, and respected on the African continent. The Kingdom maintains deep strategic partnerships with a majority of African countries, covering key areas such as the economy, security, training, culture, and sport. This dynamic is reflected in concrete agreements, joint projects, and a clear convergence of positions within African and international institutions.

On the sporting front, the facts are unequivocal. The Confederation of African Football has entrusted Morocco with the successive organization of several major continental competitions, across different categories, culminating in the awarding of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. These decisions, taken by sovereign African institutions and validated by a large majority of federations, reflect undeniable institutional confidence. This reality clearly unsettles those who fail to compete on the grounds of competence and organizational capacity.

The current attacks are primarily relayed on social media through anonymous, unverified, or recently created accounts. Their operating method is now well identified: the mechanical repetition of hostile messages, coordinated dissemination of misleading content, manipulation of images, and the distortion of statements taken out of context. These are orchestrated digital campaigns, with no real popular base, designed to artificially create controversy where none exists.

An assumed and identified state hostility

Behind these campaigns emerges, unsurprisingly, a state actor whose diplomatic posture has historically been marked by systematic hostility toward Morocco: Algeria. Unable to impose a constructive vision in Africa, this country persists in a logic of nuisance, seeking to sow discord between Morocco and its African partners and to fabricate the illusion of the Kingdom’s isolation. A futile attempt, contradicted daily by diplomatic and institutional realities.

Controversies without official scope or legitimacy

It is essential to stress that these controversies are based on no official positions from African states or recognized sports federations. They have been fueled by individual, isolated, and emotional statements from certain sports figures, taken out of context and instrumentalized for political purposes. Such remarks engage neither institutions nor African peoples, and even less the governing bodies of continental football.

An African vision founded on solidarity and sharing

Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, Morocco continues to pursue a coherent African policy founded on South-South cooperation, solidarity, and mutual respect. This vision is reflected in concrete actions: the provision of high-level infrastructure such as the Mohammed VI Football Complex, the training of African executives, sustained support for partner federations, and backing for the development of sport across the continent.

Attempts at nuisance: an admission of weakness

Ultimately, the campaigns aimed at setting Morocco against its African environment reflect less a genuine reality than an admission of powerlessness by their instigators. Faced with a credible, efficient, and respected Morocco, the Kingdom’s adversaries have no option but manipulation and disinformation. These are worn-out and ineffective methods, destined to fail in the face of the strength of Morocco’s African alliances and the clarity of its strategic vision.
