Montreal: Morocco Elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)

Morocco was elected on Tuesday to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), during the 42nd session of this United Nations body being held in Montreal.

“The Kingdom’s brilliant election to the ICAO Council illustrates Morocco’s strong reputation and the trust it enjoys at the international level,” said Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada, Souriya Otmani, in a statement to MAP following the vote.

“Under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God Assist Him, Morocco has made the civil aviation sector a national priority,” she added, highlighting the progress achieved by the Kingdom in the areas of safety, security, air services, and sustainable development in line with international standards and norms.

The Kingdom’s election is also the result of the participation and active involvement of the Moroccan delegation that took part in the ICAO Assembly, led by the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, who also held a series of bilateral meetings with civil aviation officials from other countries, Otmani affirmed.

The ICAO Assembly convenes at least once every three years at the request of its executive body, the Council. The event gathers ICAO’s 193 member states as well as a large number of international organizations to define the organization’s global policy for the next three years.
